GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES officially launched its UK office in London on 16 November 2023. The office serves as the regional service headquarters supporting Chinese-funded enterprises in expanding into Europe and developing China-EU cross-border business, and represents a key milestone in the development of the firm’s global legal service network.
Located in London’s core financial and legal business district, the office holds valid practice permissions within the scope authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). It is entitled to conduct legal practice before all levels of UK courts, leading international arbitration institutions and official regulatory frameworks, and has established a UK-wide service delivery network and a cross-jurisdictional collaborative service system.
The office has built a full-time solicitor team with dual qualification in Chinese law and English law. Core team members each have over 10 years of continuous practice experience in the UK legal market, with in-depth familiarity with the operational rules of the UK judicial system, regulatory policy frameworks and commercial transaction practices. The team enables efficient alignment between domestic Chinese requirements and local UK legal services, significantly reducing information asymmetry and the barriers of geographic and qualification adaptation in cross-border services. Focused on the core legal needs of two-way cross-border commercial entities and individuals between China–UK and China–EU, we provide professional legal services that are localised, end-to-end and fully compliant.
This document sets out the official unified fee benchmark of GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES UK Office for 2026. All quoted prices are exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT), which applies at the current UK standard rate of 20%. Settlement is available in three currencies: Pound Sterling (GBP), Renminbi (CNY) and US Dollar (USD).
1. Compliant Fee Structures of GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES UK Office
All fee arrangements at this office strictly comply with the Solicitors Act 1974 and the SRA practice rules and fee guidelines. Tailored to the cross-border service habits of Chinese-funded enterprises, we offer five standardised fee models, fully aligned with UK judicial regulatory requirements and international commercial service standards:
1.1Fixed Fee Arrangement
Applicable to basic legal services with standardised processes and precisely quantifiable workload. The total price within the agreed service scope is locked upon instruction, with no additional charges within scope. It covers standardised matters such as corporate commercial registration, basic compliance filing and standard document processing.
1.2Hourly Rate Billing
Applicable to major cross-border projects, complex dispute cases and bespoke compliance consultation. Fees are charged based on the solicitor’s chargeable working hours, with itemised monthly timesheets provided. The entire service process is verifiable and traceable.
1.3Ad Valorem (Tiered) Fee Structure
Applicable to property-related matters such as cross-border M&A, asset transactions and large-value commercial claims. Fees are charged on a tiered basis according to the value of the subject matter, in line with the prevailing practice of high-end commercial legal services in the UK.
1.4Conditional Fee Arrangement (CFA)
Operating within the SRA practice framework, this compliant success-based fee model applies only to debt collection, commercial recovery and tort claim cases. Fees are charged only on the objective outcome of actual fund recovery as agreed, with the fee ratio not exceeding 25% of the actual amount recovered.
1.5Annual General Counsel Retainer
Provides comprehensive year-round legal support for enterprises, with a fixed annual service fee.
2. Hourly Rate Schedule for Solicitors at GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES UK Office
All solicitors at GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES UK Office hold valid practising certificates issued by the SRA. A tiered pricing system is implemented.

4.1 Cross-border compliance complexity: Cases involving dual-jurisdiction (China–UK) law application, cross-border evidence collection and multi-party cross-jurisdiction collaboration will be subject to fee uplifts based on difficulty level.
4.2 Industry professional barriers: Fees for highly specialised areas such as financial regulation, cross-border investment and intellectual property are higher than those for basic civil and commercial legal services.
4.3 Case handling difficulty: Fees for major litigation and arbitration, complex cross-border enforcement and dedicated regulatory response matters are adjusted dynamically.
4.4 Service urgency: Urgent case initiation and work on public holidays will be subject to urgent service surcharges in strict accordance with the standard.
4.5 Cooperation and procurement model: Compared with single-service procurement, the overall cost of annual general counsel retainer packages can be reduced by 15%–25%.
4.6 Service team configuration: Fees are adjusted accordingly for cases handled by a joint panel of experts, with headquarters cross-border coordination, or with dedicated bilingual teams.
4.7 Case performance risk: The fee ratio for conditional fee arrangements is directly linked to case handling difficulty, realisability of fund recovery and service cycle.
