GUOZUN CATHAY ASSOCIATES Uruguay Office 2026 Fee Schedule: Detailed Breakdown Of Legal Fees In Uruguay

Guozun Cathay Associates officially launched its Uruguay office in November 2023 in Montevideo, the capital of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The office functions as the core service hub of Guozun’s global legal service network across the Southern Cone of South America. Leveraging the firm’s China headquarters and worldwide cross-border legal service network, we have assembled a dedicated team with deep roots in Uruguay’s domestic legal system and thorough knowledge of the regulatory frameworks and commercial practices of Uruguay and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). Our core practitioners bring decades of on-the-ground experience in Uruguayan legal services, and can coordinate with global cross-border legal experts to deliver end-to-end, dual-jurisdiction professional legal support for both Chinese enterprises entering Uruguay and the wider Latin American market, and Uruguayan and South American businesses pursuing opportunities in China.

This document sets forth the official 2026 unified fee schedule of Guozun’s Uruguay office. All quoted rates exclude Uruguayan Value-Added Tax (IVA, Impuesto al Valor Agregado). Payments may be settled freely in Uruguayan Pesos (UYU), US Dollars (USD) or Renminbi (CNY).

I. FEE STRUCTURES IN COMPLIANCE WITH PROFESSIONAL REGULATIONS

We strictly adhere to the Law on the Legal Profession of Uruguay and the practice rules and fee guidelines issued by the Uruguayan Bar Association. Tailored to the cross-border service conventions of Chinese enterprises, our five standardised fee structures fully satisfy Uruguayan judicial oversight requirements and international commercial service standards:

1.Flat Fee Arrangement

Applicable to basic legal services with standardised workflows and quantifiable workloads. The total fee is fixed upon engagement with no hidden charges, covering routine matters such as incorporation of commercial entities, basic compliance filings, and standard document processing.

2.Hourly Rate Arrangement

Applicable to major cross-border projects, complex dispute cases and customised compliance advisory work. Fees are calculated based on billable hours of legal practitioners, with detailed monthly timesheets provided for full auditability and traceability throughout the mandate.

3.Ad Valorem Fee Arrangement

Applicable to value-based matters including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, asset transactions and large-scale commercial claims. Fees are charged on a tiered scale proportional to the subject matter value, consistent with prevailing practice for premium commercial legal services in Uruguay.

4.Contingency Fee Arrangement

Permitted under Uruguayan legal professional regulations exclusively for debt recovery, commercial indemnification and tort claim matters. Fees are payable only upon successful recovery of funds or favourable litigation outcome, and shall not exceed 30% of the actual amount recovered – in strict compliance with the statutory ceiling for local legal practice in Uruguay.

5.Annual Retainer Arrangement

Provides enterprises with year-round, full-scope legal support for a fixed annual fee. Clients are assigned a dedicated Chinese-Spanish bilingual team with 48-hour priority response, covering all aspects of compliance and risk management for day-to-day business operations.

II. HOURLY RATE STANDARDS FOR LEGAL PRACTITIONERS

All lawyers at Guozun Cathay Associates Uruguay Office hold valid practising certificates issued by the Uruguayan Bar Association. The core team is proficient in the application of both Chinese and Uruguayan legal systems and delivers seamless Chinese-Spanish bilingual services. Senior partners are qualified to practise in multiple South American jurisdictions, with deep specialisation in cross-border investment, international commerce and compliance regulation. A tiered pricing framework is implemented.

IV. KEY FACTORS INFLUENCING LEGAL FEES

1.Cross-border compliance complexity

Fees increase proportionally for matters involving dual-jurisdiction legal application, cross-border evidence collection, multi-party international collaboration and multi-regional MERCOSUR coverage.

2.Industry specialist barriers

Fees for highly specialised sectors such as mining and energy, agriculture and forestry, financial regulation and cross-border investment are higher than basic civil and commercial legal services.

3.Case handling difficulty

Fees are dynamically adjusted for major litigation and arbitration, complex cross-border enforcement, special regulatory response and transnational evidence collection mandates.

4.Service urgency

Expedited initiation and holiday case handling are charged strictly in accordance with the standard urgency premium, with no room for negotiation.

5.Bundled engagement model

Compared with single-service engagements, the overall cost of an annual legal retainer package is 15%–25% lower.

6.Service team configuration

Fees are adjusted accordingly for matters handled by a multi-expert team, with headquarters cross-border support, or with an exclusive bilingual team.

7.Case outcome risk

The fee ratio for contingency fee engagements is directly linked to the likelihood of success, difficulty of recovery and service cycle.

V. ADDITIONAL THIRD-PARTY FEES TO BE BUDGETED

The following fees are separate from legal service fees and are reimbursed at official Uruguayan rates or actual cost. Our firm charges no handling premium for these items:

1.Government fees: Officially imposed charges in Uruguay, including commercial entity registration fees, visa application fees, court filing fees, arbitration fees, IP official fees and licence registration fees.
